Instead of the 6.2 Hellcat, they should have found a way to make a downsized hemi that could fit in the Dart and it's platform-mates.

Why not both?

a little more power, 300- 340 ish, and AWD would be beast for the Dart

Well there's going to be a Dart SRT rolled out with the next gen Dart in 2016... Albeit with a high boost 4 pot making probably north of 300hp with AWD... Along with a small crossover/hatch version with the same powertrain...

Why not a supercharged 3.1L 4 cylinder with 353.5 hp?

I was thinking like a 4-liter Hemi underhood with 325hp/350tq.

That would be half a Hellcat 6.2.

In light of the newish horsepower war.

Often wrong but never in doubt.

Ma Mopar is doing it right

Yeah. I'm aware. I'd just rather see Dodge buck the turbo trend and find a way to shoehorn a mini-hemi in there. Like a 300hp 4-liter one hooked up to AWD.

Gotcha. Clever. Maybe a Slant-6 for old times sake?

If they were as reliable as the old ones, that wouldn't be so bad.

The engines are already "Semi-Hemi" in the Darts, even the new v8's aren't true Hemi heads.

That would be the most impractical car in history. Not to mention it'd be slower. And heavier.

What makes you say that? You don't think that the next 2.4 turbo WONT be a boat anchor? Look what it did to the Calibur SRT4. This idea at least had a chance of working.

Let's break down these two options real quick.

Option 1: Develop an entirely new engine using slightly out dated motor that happens to be a miniaturized version of your big V8 which will be incredibly hard to set up right and require an image compression ratio to really do anything. Not to mention won't make good torque and won't fit.

Cost: Tens of millions.

Estimated car price if made: $200,000.... Oh but the motor still won't fit (longitudinal V8 probs), let alone the transmission.

Option 2: Take an existing motor, which happens to use pretty much all of your new tech, that you already developed a turbo system for once and hook it up to a similar awd drivetrain as your rallycross car. Have a car at the end of the day that will be reasonably well balanced, reliable, and fast.

Cost: <$1 Million

Estimated vehicle cost: $26,000 (aka wrx territory)

Seriously, the HEMI won't even fit in the Viper, let alone creating a smaller one to fit in a Dart. You would have to redevelop the motor as a transverse V8. No small task.

I'm sorry, but which motor are you talking about for option 2? I hope its not the new 2.4. Because the dirty secret is that its just the old one with an SOHC head and VVT. They'll have to make a whole new engine for the SRT4 too. Sorry, but its gonna have to be done either way.

A million dollars vs a million dollars. I just picked the more badass option.

Your point? I'm not sure what you have against that motor but the motor was the least of the Caliber SRTs issues.

But I don't think you're truly getting my point here. It would be very nearly physically impossible to make a miniaturized HEMI that would fit, let alone a transmission and diff's to connect that would also fit. Your entire floor plan would change, frame rails would change, firewall would need to change/move significantly, etc. It wouldn't work.

2.8 L V8 Hemi, go!

Theyre going to have to do all those things and make all those changes for an AWD SRT anyway. I'm not really sure where you're coming from. Might as well do something different from the norm if you have to make all this modifications to the car anyway.

Kinja'd!!! shpuker > BugEyedBimmer - back in the Saddle Dakota Leather

Because they won't have to make any of those changes... It's going to be the next gen Dart, they'll design the car to take an AWD setup. Designing it to take an AWD longitudinal 4.0L V8 would require exponentially more work.... Think slightly out of square box in a square hole vs a much larger octagonal box in the same hole.
